About Mr. Stern
I grew up in Los Angeles, and graduated from Palisades High before getting a degree from UC Berkeley.
I've been teaching since 1994, mostly 4th and 5th grade, with my first two decades split between 2 small schools near Glendale and Westwood. I've been at Melrose since 2016. I also taught middle school for a year, SAT prep courses, and I occasionally tutor French.
My favorite subject is probably science, but I also love social studies. I'm multilingual and passionate about written language, technology and the environment.
In my youth, I used to breed exotic reptiles and bugs, play drums in a rock band, SCUBA dive and take 50-mile bike rides in the mountains. Now, most of my free time is wrapped up with my home life, reading, competitive racquetball or archery.
As someone deeply invested in the future of children, I’m a devout recycler and environmentalist. I'm a parent of a middle-schooler and a high-schooler, who can usually be found in close proximity to a horse or three.
